Las mejores atracciones en Utica

1. Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute

As a group, we highly recommend visiting Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute during your trip to Utica this summer. One of the biggest draws of this museum is the variety of art on display. From modern and contemporary pieces to Hudson River School and Americana, there is truly something for everyone. Additionally, the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, providing informative reviews of the museum upon entrance.

Another highlight is the Norman Rockwell exhibit, which showcases the artist’s work in a truly impressive display. We also loved the permanent collection’s surprising inclusion of works by big names such as Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, and Kandinsky. The Fountain Elms wing is a great place to grab a bite to eat at the connected café or tour the historical home.

While the permanent exhibitions may not be as impressive as the visiting exhibits, we still found the American Art collection to be a gem worth exploring. The museum also offers free parking, which is always a welcome bonus. The building itself, designed by P. Johnson, may not be the coziest in terms of warmth, but it is certainly worth visiting.

Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute

One of the most impactful moments for us came from the «Voyage of Life» paintings by Thomas Cole on the museum’s second floor. These massive works of art detail the four stages of life and are truly emotional to experience in person. We also recommend touring the Fountain Elms, next door, to see different collections of a wealthy family and learn about their benefaction to the Utica area. Overall, Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute is a must-visit attraction in Utica this summer, with interesting exhibits, knowledgeable staff, and a great café and gift shop to boot.

2. Stanley Center for The Arts

If you’re looking for a historic and charming venue to catch a show, look no further than the Stanley Center for The Arts in Utica. This beautifully restored theater offers a unique and immersive experience, bringing visitors back in time with its ornate decorations and Tiffany light fixtures. Whether you’re attending a Broadway musical, concert, or comedy show, you’re sure to enjoy the stunning surroundings and friendly service.

While the Stanley Center for The Arts is a local favorite and attracts large crowds on show days, the entry process can be a bit congested. It’s worth arriving early to ensure you have plenty of time to get your tickets and find your seats. Additionally, the narrow lobby can become crowded due to the presence of a small bar, but this shouldn’t detract from the overall experience.

Stanley Center for The Arts

Overall, our experiences at the Stanley Center for The Arts have been overwhelmingly positive. The staff is always helpful and courteous, and the theater itself is a true gem in the Utica community. While the higher stage can sometimes create issues for those seated in the front rows, we’ve found that sitting further back in the theater is just as enjoyable. And with plenty of nearby parking and dining options, it’s easy to make a night of it in downtown Utica. If you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to catch a show at the Stanley Center for The Arts.

3. Matt Brewing Co.

Matt Brewing Co., also known as Utica Brewing and the makers of Saranac beer, is a must-visit attraction in Utica. Founded in 1888, this historic brewery has been a part of the Utica community for over 100 years. The beautiful tasting room and building offer a pleasant ambiance, and the selection of beer is fantastic. We enjoyed trying out their famous Utica Club as well as some excellent IPAs and dark brews. The gift shop is a perfect place to pick up some unique souvenirs to take home.

For beer lovers, a tour of Matt Brewing Co. is a perfect way to spend an afternoon. The tour is very informative, and the tour guides are knowledgeable and well-versed in the brewery’s history. We loved the trivia questions asked throughout the tour, and we received extra beverage tickets for answering correctly. The tour is $5.00 per person, which includes a pint in the authentic 1880s tap room upstairs when the tour is finished. You can also purchase sample packs or t-shirts from the gift shop.

Matt Brewing Co.

One downside to visiting Matt Brewing Co. is that they are closed on Sundays and Mondays, which can be slightly disappointing if you’re only in town for a short while. However, the brewery is worth a visit on any other day of the week. The best part is that even non-beer drinkers and kids can enjoy the tour. Also, the Tavern at the end of the tour is a highlight and offers a glimpse into a bygone era. Overall, visiting Matt Brewing Co. is a fascinating experience with a lot of history and informative insights into the brewing process.

4. Utica Zoo

5. Union Station

Utica’s Union Station, one of the ten most popular tourist attractions in Utica, is a stunning location that transports visitors back in time to the golden age of rail travel, and we couldn’t agree more with this statement. This Amtrak station, which still serves more than one passenger railroad, is impeccably maintained and has a stunning interior that is breathtaking to behold. Even if you’re not embarking on a train journey, Union Station is a must-visit location.

One of the standout points of Union Station is the polite and helpful staff who are always eager to provide assistance. During our visit, the staff we interacted with were friendly, knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond to help us in any way possible. Even though it was our first visit, we never felt lost, misplaced, or intimidated thanks to their excellent customer service.

Union Station

While the station’s aesthetic is one of its significant selling points, the lack of food options leaves something to be desired. It would have been nice to have a small cafe or store to purchase refreshments while waiting for the train, but this is a minor complaint. The station’s architecture more than makes up for any gaps in convenience. Overall, Union Station is one of Utica’s must-see destinations for anyone who loves history, architecture, or simply appreciates a beautifully designed building.

6. Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium

The Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium is a fantastic attraction to visit, especially during hockey season. The rinks are well maintained and the seating is comfortable, making it a great place to enjoy a game while staying warm. We especially appreciated the restaurant and bar, which were both fast and efficient. Overall, we had a fabulous time and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun night out with friends or family.

One of the best things about this arena is its historic feel. It’s definitely not your typical cookie-cutter venue, and the recent updates and renovations have only enhanced its charm. We enjoyed exploring the space and imagining what it must have been like to watch a game back in the 60s or 70s. Additionally, the arena has become a jewel in the city for varied events, including concerts, rodeos, and even trade shows. While it may not be a place to tour, it’s certainly an excellent place to attend a wide range of events.

Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium

While we loved the Adirondack Bank Center, we did notice one drawback during our visit. It can be difficult to navigate the stairs without anything to hold onto, which is a potential safety issue for those with mobility issues. However, we recommend getting a handicap seat for those who may struggle with this. Despite this, the arena is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Utica, with its unique construction, great views, and lively atmosphere.
