Las mejores atracciones en Long Beach Island

1. Barnegat Lighthouse State Park

Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is a must-see attraction when you visit Long Beach Island. The park is historic, scenic, and enjoyable, despite its small size. The park is home to a quaint museum that is free to visit and the lighthouse itself, which is certainly worth touring. If climbing the lighthouse is your thing, definitely give it a try, but beware of the thin set of steps and the possibility of getting vertigo. The climb is worth it for the breathtaking views of the ocean and beaches.

Unfortunately, the park may not be ideal for pet owners. Although pets are welcome in the park, they are not allowed on the walkway that surrounds the lighthouse, which can be disappointing. Nonetheless, the area surrounding the lighthouse is still beautiful, with plenty of space to walk along the water line, explore the beach, and walk around the trail. Additionally, the park has a waterfront area where you can admire the inlet and enjoy the nice ocean breezes.

Barnegat Lighthouse State Park

Although the lighthouse is only open on weekends, it’s worth checking out. You can get up close to the lighthouse even when it’s closed, which provides an opportunity for some great photos. If you plan to visit during peak season, be prepared for crowds. Otherwise, early morning rain may spoil your plans but will also provide you with the opportunity to have the place to yourself. Overall, the park may be simple, but it’s certainly amusing to walk around, and we would definitely recommend it for a couple of hours’ visit or a relaxing day out.

2. Museum of NJ Maritime History

One of the top attractions on Long Beach Island is the Museum of NJ Maritime History. From our personal experience, we can say that it is truly a treasure trove of information for anyone interested in maritime research. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and they even offer free DVDs on many subjects. We found this museum to be one of the best on the East coast due to the vast amount of information available and the huge collection of artifacts to explore. The only downside is that we could have easily spent weeks here and not seen everything!

Upon visiting the Museum of NJ Maritime History, we were overwhelmed with the amount of information available. It covers a wide range of topics including famous shipwrecks, shore erosion issues, and local history. One of the rooms covers the famous 1916 Shark Attacks that inspired the movie «Jaws,» and there are all sorts of artifacts to explore. Each room is packed with information, and we found it to be somewhat overwhelming unless we had a few hours to spend here like we did. The staff is welcoming and friendly, and they will answer any questions you may have.

Museum of NJ Maritime History

The Museum of NJ Maritime History is one of the cutest museums we have seen in a long time. It’s not a big museum, but it is very educational and nautical. As lovers of all kinds of museums, we thought we would just pop into this one for a short visit, but we ended up staying for a couple of hours just looking and reading. It’s a great place for older children for educational purposes, and we’re looking forward to returning and sharing the experience with our friends and family. The parking is free in September next door on the pier, and we highly recommend this museum if you’re in the area.

3. Ship Bottom Beach

Ship Bottom Beach is one of the quieter sections of Long Beach Island, making it a great spot to escape from the crowds in the summer. Despite not having any facilities, it is conveniently located close to privately-held homes and easy to get to. The water can be cold at times, but the clean and refreshing ocean air is a welcome reprieve from the city. While it may not be on the top 5 things to do for some, it is still worth a day trip for those looking for some peace and quiet.

For those who are looking for a busy beach with lots of amenities, Ship Bottom Beach may not be the best choice. During the summer months, parking can be difficult and facilities are not available. However, for those who prefer a more laid-back atmosphere and clean sands, this beach is perfect. It is family-oriented and quiet, making it a great place to spend a relaxing day or even bring your furry friend in the off-season.

Ship Bottom Beach

Ship Bottom Beach is a great spot for surfers, with its rough waves and easy access via the bridge. It is also one of the few beaches in the area where dogs are allowed from October through May, making it a popular spot for pet owners. While there are no facilities available, the beautiful scenery and easy access make up for it. Overall, Ship Bottom Beach is a must-visit for those looking for a peaceful and low-key getaway on Long Beach Island.

4. Fantasy Island Amusement Park

Fantasy Island Amusement Park in Long Beach Island is definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a fun day out with your family. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, as one parent noted in their review of their son’s seventh birthday party there. The staff took care of everything, making it the easiest party preparation they’ve done in a while. Besides, the entire experience is excellent, as another guest’s Pop Pop shared, albeit a bit expensive. But, when it comes to having fun with your family, the expenses are justified. Happy faces all around, that’s what counts in the end.

As one review pointed out, the park may be small, but it’s definitely family-friendly. The kiddie, mid-range, and thrill-ish rides will keep everyone entertained. However, keep in mind that the rides are a bit pricey, and the park may get too crowded and noisy during peak hours of summer. But if you’re patient, you’ll definitely have a good time. Besides, the all-digital cards for payment make everything way easier, although original pinball machines would have made a difference.

If you’re vacationing in Long Beach Island and looking for something to do, Fantasy Island is a great option as it offers fun for all ages. The park’s size is decent, with clean grounds and rides. Kiddie rides for the little ones, pre-teen and teen rides, and even adult-friendly rides, it’s perfect for having a great time with your family. Also, the arcade adds to the excitement, and there are several game stands and ice cream shops to try out.

Fantasy Island Amusement Park

Lastly, in the current pandemic climate, Fantasy Island Amusement Park has been a great example of how to operate during these tough times. Every ride gets sprayed down after each turn, and they’ve designated certain areas as «Mask Break» sections. The park runs efficiently while also ensuring the safety of all guests. Kudos to the park for providing a comfortable and safe environment for everyone. Overall, Fantasy Island is an excellent park with its clean rides, friendly staff, and fun games, though the only downside being that in the summer, the rides open late afternoon.

5. Surflight Theatre

Surflight Theatre is a must-visit spot for any theater lover. As a group, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and recommend this venue to anyone visiting Long Beach Island. The cast of The Addams Family was outstanding, and the production was incredibly professional. The prices are reasonable, so it’s an excellent option for those on a tighter budget. The venue is well-suited to its purpose, and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. It’s essential to note that, despite being a small theater, the quality of the shows is increasing, which is impressive.

In addition, the theater showcases an excellent selection of talent. The Broadway performances are worth watching without having to travel too far. Even better, the prices are reasonable. It’s an excellent opportunity for locals and tourists alike to enjoy Broadway performances in a small and intimate setting. Don’t miss the chance to see one of the shows if they are available while you’re in LBI. We promise it will be an unforgettable experience.

Surflight Theatre

We were lucky enough to see Ain’t Misbehavin’, and we can’t recommend it enough. The small theater setting made for an intimate and emotional night. The music was terrific, and the cast was excellent. We even stood up and cheered during the curtain calls! We have seen several performances at Surflight recently, and the quality of the shows continues to improve. It’s an excellent chance to see some unique and high-quality productions right in the heart of LBI.

6. Long Beach Island Historical Museum

If you’re looking for a fun and informative activity to do on Long Beach Island, the Long Beach Island Historical Museum is definitely worth a visit. As one reviewer mentioned, it’s not to be missed if you’re in the area. The museum is not as small as some people have said and there is an abundance of interesting artifacts that offer a glimpse into the rich history of this beach community. From exhibits on the old hotels and amusement parks to displays on the effects of Hurricane Sandy, there’s something for everyone to learn and enjoy.

In addition to the exhibits, the museum also hosts fun events throughout the year. We attended the Halloween Open House and The Elves Workshop events mentioned by other reviewers and had a great time. The staff put a lot of effort into ensuring that families have a good time and the events really provide a unique way to experience the museum. Especially during these days, it’s nice to see that cultural institutions are making an effort to adapt to COVID times and offering programming where families can feel safe and entertained.

Long Beach Island Historical Museum

The museum is housed in an old church, which is a beautiful building that adds to the charm of the experience. The docents are friendly and knowledgeable, always eager to answer any questions and provide additional information. The only downside we noticed is that the tour bus offered by the museum can get a bit noisy due to the air conditioning, but it’s a small price to pay for the comfort on a hot day. Overall, we highly recommend the Long Beach Island Historical Museum as a must-visit attraction on Long Beach Island.

7. Surf City 5&10

We highly recommend a stop at Surf City 5&10 during your visit to Long Beach Island. This charming gift shop has a wide variety of items at reasonable prices, including beach gear, souvenirs, taffy, gifts, and much more. As a bonus, it’s conveniently located within walking or biking distance to many Surf City homes in the center of town. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the experience here is reminiscent of classic 5&10 stores of the past. We always make sure to stop here to pick up new shirts or toys for the kids each year, and it never disappoints.

One of the best parts of Surf City 5&10 is its immense inventory of household items and souvenirs. If you forgot to pack something for the beach, chances are that you’ll find it here. They’ve got everything from sunscreen to toys to decorative items, so be sure to take some time and search through all of the aisles. Some items may be slightly cheaper elsewhere, so it doesn’t hurt to shop around, but overall the prices are quite reasonable. It truly is your go-to place while on the island, and many visitors look forward to picking out new shirts and souvenirs each summer.

Surf City 5&10

While we highly recommend visiting Surf City 5&10, we must warn you about the over-regulated nature of Surf City itself. Visitors must be aware of the strict rules and regulations when it comes to parking, drinking alcohol, playing catch on the beach, bringing dogs, and more. However, despite the difficult regulations, the beach and ocean itself are beautiful, and Surf City 5&10 is an iconic and beautiful location that shouldn’t be missed. So, we recommend making time to drop in, grab a fun keychain or T-shirt, and appreciate the experience of visiting a historic 5&10 store.

8. Viking Village, Inc.

Looking for a unique spot to stop during your visit to Long Beach Island? We highly recommend checking out Viking Village, Inc. This quaint collection of shops and restaurants offers a charming experience that is well worth a visit. While it may not be the most well-known spot on the island, it is a hidden gem that locals and visitors alike can appreciate.

One of the best things about Viking Village is that you can witness the fishing industry up close and personal. The fishing vessels are all lined up in the back of the village and you can see where the fresh fish you’re eating just came from. This is a very special experience that you simply won’t find elsewhere.

In terms of the shops and restaurants, there is a lot to love about Viking Village. There are great little shops that sell unique and handmade items from local artists and small business owners. From jewelry to clothing to home goods, you’re sure to find something with character. There is also a coffee shop, seafood restaurant, and other attractions that are perfect for families.

Viking Village, Inc.

Of course, like any destination, Viking Village has its downsides. Some visitors have reported that some shops are closed or have limited stock, which can be disappointing. Additionally, some of the events held there, like the live music, might not be to everyone’s taste. However, we believe that the charm and uniqueness of Viking Village make it well worth a visit. So, grab yourself a coffee, explore the shops and watch the fishing boats come in. You won’t regret it!

9. Schooner’s Wharf

Schooner’s Wharf is definitely a place worth visiting if you’re in Long Beach Island. It’s a great shopping locale that’s both convenient and diverse. From quality merchandise shops to amazing restaurants, there’s a lot to see and do here. On top of that, the place is easily accessible, thanks to the free LBI shuttle that takes you there. And should you choose to drive instead, there’s plenty of free parking available.

One of the best things about Schooner’s Wharf is that it’s a fun place for people of all ages. The variety of shops they have here means that everyone will find something they like. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs to take home, toys for the kids, or even treats for your pet, you’ll find it all here. Moreover, the wharf is located near/on the bay and is in the heart of Beach Haven. This makes it the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or window shopping session with friends and family.

While Schooner’s Wharf is a great place to visit, it does have its downsides. For instance, some of the shops here can be a little expensive. However, this doesn’t have to be a deal-breaker, as you can still find great deals at the end of the season. Additionally, some of the chairs, tables, and benches around the area can be uncomfortable to sit on. Finally, while some reviewers mentioned that the decking needs refinishing, this doesn’t detract significantly from the overall experience at Schooner’s Wharf.

Overall, though, Schooner’s Wharf is indeed one of the must-see attractions in Long Beach Island. The place has been around for years and continues to be a favorite among locals and visitors alike. So whether you’re looking for a shopping expedition or simply a leisurely stroll by the bay, be sure to add Schooner’s Wharf to your travel itinerary.

10. Thundering Surf Waterpark

When it comes to water parks in Long Beach Island, Thundering Surf Waterpark is certainly a must-visit spot. While some visitors have reported rude staff, we found the park to be fun, clean, and safe for families. The varied water rides and multitude of food options certainly impressed us. As parents, we appreciate the convenience of the park’s layout, with attractions clearly mapped out and plenty of onsite parking available. It’s also great to have the Flow Rider and mini golf on site for those looking for a bit more adventure. The prices are reasonable as long as the lines aren’t too long, and going on weekdays is a good way to avoid any crowds.

Another visitor agrees that the park is well worth a visit, with a wide variety of water rides for all ages. The place is well staffed with lifeguards, ensuring that everyone can feel safe and secure as they enjoy the water. Our 7-year-old daughter had a really fun time, which made our visit all the more enjoyable. We highly recommend Thundering Surf Waterpark to anyone looking for a fun family outing on Long Beach Island.

Thundering Surf Waterpark

While the park is generally safe and fun, one visitor did note that they had some concerns about the COVID-19 safety measures in place. While patrons were not required to wear masks (given that it’s an outdoor water park), some of the staff were seen without masks at times. Additionally, not all of the equipment was being adequately cleaned – the blue mats in the racer slides were noted as being particularly concerning. Nonetheless, we still found the park to be an enjoyable and well-organized experience.
